New Fav Blogs

These are must reads in the endless quest for work-day procrastination. How can I be expected to get anything done when I can look at hilarious photo documentation of gay Fire Island shenanigans and read about the happenings radiating from the corner of Greenwich @ Bank? It makes me even more depressed that I must suffer through the recycled air and unflattering light of the cube....at least I can add a little entertainment and faggotry to my incredibly straight work day. Love it!

The Corey Gallery

First of all, let me say that it is wonderful to see a friend find something that makes him so fulfilled. Corey Rosenberg recently opened The Corey Gallery with absolutley wonderful art by one of his instructors at the School of Visual Arts, Adrienne Leban. I have to add that he was absolutely glowing. Being an Art History minor and all, I am fascinated by the art world (I love to be the armchair art critic like guys love to be the armchair quarterback or others a backseat driver) so I was extremely excited to go to the opening of the gallery. The Corey Gallery is completely approachable and not stuffy by any means. The art is great and accessible on many levels: modern yet organic, monochromatic but alive, and not esoteric to the point of making the viewer endlessly dig for a deeper meaning. Adrienne Leban is extremely talented and creates the type of work that sticks in the back of your head and you think about all the time. Definitley check out The Corey Gallery's site. This is a must see..

The only thing cheaper in NYC

From living in NYC you expect almost everything to be astronomically priced. This is the city where the average one-bedroom apartment is $1.2 million, cocktails are commonly $15 a pop, and spending $30 a person at dinner is a complete steal. The ONE thing that is cheaper in NYC than anywhere else is getting manicures and pedicures. You can literally pay $20-$30 bucks and get a mani AND pedi. The other thing I love about the nail places here is that it is a complete faux pas to get trailer park acrylic nails and, therefore, the places do not smell like a meth lab. It is a completely relaxing indulgence on the cheap, and makes me feel like a million bucks (or a $1.2 millon apartment).

Check out Soho Nails on W. Broadway btwn Houston and Prince for the fabulous $20 mani and pedi. Stellar.

The USA Just Got a Whole Lot Sexier

Oh sweet Jesus, this is what we have all been waiting for....straight girls and gay boys alike!!! The hair, the body, the clothes, the tats. This man oozes sex. Stalker status will hit a whole new level with this one. Posh better watch out!

Bare Naked!

I'm definitely not a tree-hugger granola type girl, but on a cold winter's morning I love oatmeal. Not the runny kind that reminds me of three bears and porridge or looks like oatmeal puree, but the thick meaty kind with chunks and fruit bits, etc. After years of eating Quaker Oats Cinnamon Roll oatmeal (which is right on par with crack in it's addictiveness), which is loaded with high fructose corn syrup (honey, no) I made the switch to Kashi oatmeal. Truthfully, eating that was like a kid forcing down medicine. It tasted like cardboard and had the nastiest gelatinous texture. YUCK! As a last resort I tried Bare Naked Oatmeal (I got mine at Whole Foods), and I absolutely love it. There are actual dried blueberries in the fruit flavored one, and it is absolutely delicious with just the right mix of mushiness and texture. Seriously, give it a whirl. Your body will thank you.

Zents are Zelicious

I am well aware that candles are the 21st century's "old cat lady", but I don't care..I think they smell fabulous, and no one likes a stinky apartment. I came across the Zents line of candles, bath things, and scents in Sulphur Springs TX of all places, so I was pleasantly surprised to go to their website and discover they are sold all over (even in NYC yay). I am now and addict and everyone I know will be getting them as presents. Haha JK. The scents are fresh, clean, and modern which I love, and the packaging is classy and minimal. I am so over those status candles with huge lables ie- Diptyque ($75 ya right), Tocca (the worst burning candle I have ever bought--black soot everywhere), Henri Bendel etc. I got the Water candle which smells just like Bali, and I love the Fig body spray as well. Loves it!

Mail That's Not Bills

With the advent of the internet I have found that 99% of my mail is one of three things: 1) bills (EW) 2) magazines (ok, very fun) 3) current resident (news flash--I don't need an oil change since I don't have a car). I was shopping around in Soho last weekend and I found a little vendor on Prince and W. Broadway that was selling the cutest, and might I say classy/trendy as well, note cards and thank you cards. I had to get the ones with the coral. Now, we all know that gift-giving and party season is quickly approaching. Be sure to bypass the lamo Hallmark and Target cards and go straight for something unique. Kenny Gee stationary is definitely my top pick. Love it!

Gawker

I love Perez and everything, but how many times can I see pictures of Lindsay Lohan’s un-pantied crotch? My new favorite site is Gawker. It may be a little irrelevant to the non-New Yorker, but I absolutely love the wit and sarcasm. It is basically written by the people who love the phrase, ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, come sit by me.” It’s definitely my newest guilty pleasure: pure intelligentsia coupled with catty gossip and a touch of NYC asshole.

So Wicked

Favorite nail polish in the world: Essie Wicked. It's not as harsh as the oh-so-trendy black and looks like a dark burgundy when you have it on your perfectly manicured nails. So, you can get away with wearing it to the office, but it has a nice touch of edge to it. I am so completely over safe Park Avenue Pink nails. Remember though, keep your nails short or you risk looking like you are from Queens, or even worse...Long Island.

NeoStrata = Skin Savior

A friend of mine tipped me onto NeoStrata Lotion Plus and I can easily say that my skin has never looked better. It was recommended by his Derm (Dr. Colbert), so I thought I would give it a whirl and for $25 bucks who really cares. I love this product. Yes, it does burn a little when you put it on because of the glycolic acid, but no more than if you were to rub Lip Fusion all over your face (and hey, that means it's working in my book). My friend actually describes his skin as translucent, and I have to say that mine is on its way there. Fine lines, dullness, roughness be gone! Luminescence is just a click away!

Mint Up Your Mouth

I discovered CO Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine in Chicago, and it has become a staple inall my bags. So, I was way too excited about moving to NYC and being able to go to the original location (started in 1838) at 6th Ave and 9th Street. I would now be able to get my nectar right from the source! I have the old standard, clear, and an whole array of tinted ones. This mint-infused lip gloss/balm smells great and give your lips a super high gloss. The peppermint supposedly freshens breath, but in reality you end up licking it off your lips (yum). I also love how it is in the squeeze tube. The last thing I want to do after riding the subway is stick my nasty fingers in a pot of gloss then touch my lips. Hello grossness! If I were stranded on a desert island I would only hope to have this with me. And....if there was a McDreamy on the island I am sure he would appreciate my minty fresh breath and super shiny lips.

Be a Glamour Diva for $22

I can't rave enough about DiorShow mascara, and I would literally scream from the rooftops about how much I love it. It is thick and goopy (but goopy in a luxurious and sexy way) and makes you look like you could possibly be wearing fake lashes without the messy glue or the threat of waking up with a band of lashes half-hanging off your eye. Not sexy. It lengthens, separates, volumizes, and any of those other buzz words the makeup industry uses. I totally feel like a 40's film glamour diva when I use it. So worth the $22. Being a gloss and mascara girl, I have tried many-a-mascaras in my time, but I always keep going back to this--or cursing myself for trying something else. This is a crucial tool in any make-up arsenal!
